SITM develops world's finest weft insertion tricot machine

French warp knitting machine engineering company Schinasi International Textile Machines (SITM) claims to have developed the world’s finest weft insertion device for a tricot machine in gauge E36 (36 needles per inch). The company which is based in Chanteloup les Vignes , a half hour train ride from central Paris, is claiming the machine as a ‘world first’, as until now the finest available gauge for weft insertion tricot machines was 32E.

Around 70 academics, students and industrialists from the UK attended an inaugural lecture by Professor Tilak Dias, at Nottingham Trent University’s Newton Lecture Theatre at the end of February. Professor Dias holds the Chair of Knitting in the School of Art & Design at Nottingham Trent University and directs the activities of the School’s Centre for Research in Advanced Textiles (CReATe).

'Comfort Mapping' to enhance next generation sportswear

Following the resounding success of breathable functional textiles for sport and leisure wear, the development of fabrics for these purposes is said to be entering a new phase. Experts at the internationally renowned textile research centre, the Hohenstein Institute in Bönnigheim, Germany, have analysed the heat and moisture management specifications for fabrics worn on different parts of the human body and in a process called ‘body mapping with comfort zones’ or simply ‘comfort mapping’, the scientists say their  findings should make it possible in future to use different textile materials for different parts of a garment, so making sportswear significantly more comfortable to wear.
