Techtextil: Steiger targets technical textile markets

Swiss flat knitting machine builder Steiger was exhibiting for the first time last week at Techtextil, the leading German show owned by Messe Frankfurt which focuses on technical textiles.

Steiger, which is now owned by giant Chinese flat knitting machine builder Ningbo Yuren Knitting Machine Co. Ltd (Cixing brand), has always sold machines into orthopaedic goods and compression hosiery markets, but this was the first time the company had taken a stand at the world’s leading technical textiles show.

Techtextil and Texprocess shows convince industry

Techtextil, the leading international trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens, opened its doors on Tuesday in Frankfurt and closed yesterday, counting 24,500 visitors* (2009: 23,902). Over half of the visitors to the show and its Material Vision cutting edge materials exposition are said to have come from outside of Germany, the world’s leader in technical textiles.

Jump in global shipments of textile machinery in 2010

Following a strong investment boom that reached its peak in 2007, shipments of new textile machinery were in strong decline aggravated by the global financial and economic crisis of 2008/2009. However, in 2010 global shipments of new textile machinery recorded a very strong up-swing.

The Gores Group, a Los Angeles-based private equity firm, today announced that it has partnered with management to acquire Sage Automotive Interiors, Inc. a leading supplier of high-performance specialty fabrics, from an affiliate of Azalea Capital, LLC. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Tefron boosted by seamless sales

Intimate apparel and sportswear producer Tefron has announced its latest financial results which show that its sales of seamless products increased by 80% in the first quarter of 2011 when compared to the same quarter last year. Sales of seamless products were boosted to US$20 million and were mainly attributed to initial sales to new customers following the acquisition of the North American Nouvelle business.

Students design fabric for charging mobile phones

Four students from Aalborg University in Denmark have designed a smart fabric technology which aims to make mobile phones and other hand held devices truly mobile. 

Students Hans Christian Thiesen, Mads Gydegaard, Morten Ydefeldt and Marius Koppang were awarded the prize for their project involving a fabric which can charge mobile computers, mobile phones and other electrical devices. The fabric automatically charges a mobile phone or computer when they are placed on it and can be integrated into mats and table covers. Upholstery fabrics for seating are considered a key area of application.
