Researchers develop washable wearable computing

According to researchers at Nottingham Trent University in the UK, wearable computers which can withstand washing are one step closer thanks to a technology which integrates electronic micro devices into yarns. The academics developed a prototype garment to demonstrate the technology, which they say could be used for medical and military purposes.

NIKE: 80% less waste for new Flyknit Lunar1+

Nike has launched its latest running shoe incorporating its Flyknit seamlessly knitted uppers technology and it looks like being a real winner on all fronts.

Nike Flyknit Lunar1+, which is available from the beginning of February, is said to employ construction methods which reduce waste by an average of 80% when compared to typical Nike running footwear and offer significant benefits to everyday runners.

Innovative textile products to be made in Russia

Cotton Club, a leading global manufacturer of cotton and hygiene products, with its own production facilities and trade offices in Russia, Turkey, China, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, plans to start construction of a large plant for the production of innovative textile products in Russian city of Dankov (Lipetsk region). Construction will start in the second quarter of 2013, according to an official representative of the company.

Knitted illustration promotes adidas Primeknit

Illustrator Damien Weighill has created a large-scale artwork that has been knitted into a two-metre length of fabric to promote the adidas adizero Primeknit running shoe, launched at the London 2012 Olympics, which is knitted on a flat knitting machine. Tenowo Lincolnton in $7.2M expansion

North Carolina based Tenowo Lincolnton Inc. is planning to add 26 jobs and spend $7.2 million to expand its nonwovens production facility in Lincoln County. The company, formerly known as HOF Textiles Inc., has received a $50,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund to help with the expansion. The plant currently employs 67 people.
