Super Absorbent Fibre to bloom at Inter-Horti Expo

India is witnessing a revolutionary phase in the horticultural and agricultural sectors with both small and large companies investing heavily in the latest technologies. In March, the Ministry of Agriculture-sponsored Inter-Horti Expo will become the focus for the industry with both domestic and international exhibitors vying for a piece of the action and displaying their latest products.

Trevira's hybrid yarns stiffen sunscreen fabrics

At next month’s R+T in Stuttgart, a leading trade fair for roller shutters and sun protection systems, fibre manufacturer Trevira will be presenting its range of polyester fibres and filament yarns for interior sun protection applications. These include flame retardant fibres and yarns, as well as hybrid yarns for the manufacture of stiffened fabrics.

METYX invests in LIBA MAX 5 multiaxial machine

Polyester producer Teijin Fibers announced today that it has decided to commercialize a new version of its Nanofront high-strength polyester nanofibre with a diameter of 400 nanometres, or 22,500 times smaller than the cross-sectional area of a strand of hair, an unprecedented achievement for a commercial polyester fibre.

Nanofibre used in New Balance running socks

Polyester producer Teijin Fibers is supplying its high-strength polyester Nanofront nanofibre for use in running socks made by New Balance. Frictional force, one of the noteworthy properties of Nanofront, creates outstanding slip resistance to help prevent the sock from sliding inside a shoe, thereby reducing blisters and shoe sores. Nanofront also boasts high absorbency for added comfort.

Ford and Repreve to recycle 2M plastic bottles

Car manufacturer Ford says it is planning to divert approximately 2 million post-consumer plastic bottles for use in its new Focus Electric and other new vehicles for the next model year, through the use of Unifi’s Repreve recycled PET yarns in interior fabrics.

Nonwovens demand to rise 6.9% PA to 2015

According to a new Freedonia industry study, ‘World Nonwovens Industry’, global sales of nonwoven fabrics are forecast to increase 6.9% annually through 2015 to 9.2 million metric tons.  The growth rate is said to be an acceleration from the 2005-2010 period, reflecting a low base as global recessionary conditions restrained nonwovens fabric demand in 2008 and 2009 before improving somewhat in 2010.
